Withers & Rogers' attorneys are supported by a wide range of operations staff in a variety of specialist roles.

By far the most numerous support role, as you might expect, is that of secretary. Patent and Trade Mark secretaries must develop a good knowledge of the technical vocabulary of those with whom they are working, an understanding of the wide variety of forms, standard letters and routine international correspondence that is common in the intellectual property sector, as well as having good audio-typing skills.

In a profession where the missing of key deadlines can have immensely expensive consequences for clients and the Firm, excellent diary and prioritisation skills are vital. Secretaries will also be involved in logging chargeable time for fee earning staff, raising invoices for clients, booking and co-ordinating international travel etc. While we tend to prefer to take on secretaries with previous patent or trade mark experience, this is not essential and we can provide training and reference materials to help good secretaries make the transition from other sectors.
