Ivor studied Chemistry at Salford University resulting in graduate membership of The Royal Society of Chemistry.
Ivor began his career at ICI, where he worked in the Paints Division research laboratories on new polymers and resins for the automotive market and also had experience on the alkyd resins production plant. He later worked as a synthetic organic chemist for the Plant Protection Division of ICI, researching new compounds for herbicidal use.
At Johnson Matthey, Ivor gained experience in car exhaust conversion catalysis and general chemical process catalysis, especially involving the precious metals; ceramics and pottery decoration; platinum-based anti-cancer drugs, composite materials and metallurgy.
Ivor joined Withers & Rogers in 1986 from the patent department of Johnson Matthey. He became a Partner in 1987 and is a member of AIPPI. He is based in our Bristol office.
Ivor takes an active role in the career development of trainees with Withers & Rogers and lectures on UK patent law at an annual residential revision course for trainee UK patent attorneys.
Ivor handles general patent prosecution work and is particularly experienced in applied chemistry, including pharmaceuticals, agro-chemicals, catalysis, surface coatings and paper technology. Ivor has extensive experience of litigation and has obtained many successful results for his clients in the exploitation of Intellectual Property Rights by licensing.
Ivor works with Futura Medical Developments Ltd on a wide portfolio of patent cases. Other clients include the University of the West of England, Cardiff University and Permaban Ltd., a market leader in concrete floorings.
Ivor enjoys walking, both at home and on holiday, and has walked the Inca Trail. If the holiday has a wildlife theme, such as a walking safari, so much the better. Back home, Ivor has recently taken up choral singing and has an expanding second-generation family.
