Ben has an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University; in his degree he specialised in Metallurgy and Materials Science. Ben also has a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, London.
Career to date
Ben entered the profession in 1985 and has worked for us since 1987.
Personal skills
Ben's thorough nature adds value to his role as Chairman of the firm's Finance Committee.
Sector experience
Ben handles patent applications concerning engineering materials and generally in the mechanical and electromechanical fields. He advises clients on copyright and design right and registered designs.
Client experience
Ben's clients include Zircotec Ltd, Denso Marston Ltd, Surpass Industry Co. Ltd and Panasonic Corporation. He has particular experience in due diligence exercises, oppositions at the European Patent Office, and infringement clearance advice.
Notable successes
Following careful advice from Ben on avoidance of infringement of a matrix of patents, one of Ben's clients was well placed to fight off assertions of infringement by a large multinational corporation, while the client's competitors had to change or withdraw their designs and pay damages.
Ben is also one of the few people to have been involved in an inter partes registered design hearing at the UK Designs Registry. At the hearing, he was successful in maintaining his client's registered design.
On a personal note..
Ben enjoys tennis, skiing and choral singing.
