Paul has a degree in Civil Engineering and German from Loughborough University.
After being a Patent Examiner and working for another firm of attorneys, Paul joined Withers & Rogers in 2001, became a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2002, a European Patent Attorney in 2005 and a partner in 2007. Paul co-founded our Sheffield office in 2009.
Paul follows a pragmatic, client focused approach to his work. He likes to get to know client businesses and tailors his advice and working practices accordingly. He is a competent German speaker, and continues to build on his knowledge of searching and competitor intelligence tools, which dates from his time as an Examiner.

Paul undertakes general patent drafting and prosecution work, European Patent Office oppositions and oral proceedings, competitor intelligence advice, and freedom to use opinions for ArvinMeritor and one of the UK's leading suppliers of packaging for fresh food. Paul advises Bromley Technologies on transferring their world-class winter sports technology into consumer-ready products.
Paul has successfully handled a number of European Patent Office oppositions and has often achieved favourable decisions for his clients without the need to attend oral proceedings. Paul has successfully stopped a number of national retailers stocking copycat kitchenware products for a client without recourse to court proceedings.
