Higher education

James has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde.

Career to date

James entered the profession in 1994 as a Technical Assistant with a Glasgow-based firm before joining Withers & Rogers in 1997. He became a partner in 2005 and is based in our Midlands office.

Personal skills

James regularly gives presentations and seminars on Intellectual Property to the local business community in and around Leamington Spa. His interest in motorsport assists in dealing with clients in this field and the Motorsport Industry Association of which Withers & Rogers is a member.

Sector experience

James has experience of the General Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, Medical Devices and Oil Industry sectors.

Client experience

James' experience includes the prosecution of patents in areas as diverse as food processing and packaging, drill chucks and package conveying and sorting apparatus, for clients including McCain Foods, Power Tool Holders (the Jacobs brand) and United Parcel Service of America.

Notable successes

James was responsible for registering the design of the British Airways tartan in the UK.

On a personal note

When not at his desk, James' interests include scuba diving, real ale and campaigning a recalcitrant 1950's era racing car at hill-climb venues and racing circuits both in the UK and on the Continent.
