Ozgur Aydin

Ozgur Aydin is a part-qualified patent attorney in the Advanced Engineering group, actively involved in the Batteries and Defence sector groups. He supports clients across the aerospace, defence, automotive, railway, and clean technology industries, ranging from startups to multinational corporations.

He has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and Europe across a broad range of technologies, including electric motors, power systems, and innovations in the automotive, aerospace, and rail industries. His technical strengths lie in mechanical engineering—particularly HVAC systems—and electrical engineering, with a focus on electric motors and control systems. His work also includes IP strategy development, invention harvesting, portfolio management, and freedom-to-operate assessments. A native Turkish speaker, Ozgur is proficient in English and has conversational ability in Italian, which supports his work with international clients.

Education & background

Ozgur holds bachelor’s degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from Yildiz Technical University in Turkey, and a master’s in engineering business management from the University of Warwick. His academic research explored CO₂ cooling in HVAC systems, RAMS analysis for the Turkish railway sector, and machine vision data management in battery manufacturing. Prior to entering the patent profession, he worked as a project engineer in the railway industry and as a field application engineer in industrial automation.

On a personal note…

Outside of work, Ozgur is a passionate Argentine tango dancer with over a decade of experience, having taught and DJed at international events. He is currently exploring West Coast Swing and training for a return to triathlon competitions. He also enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and perfecting his coffee and tea brewing techniques.
