Withers & Rogers is operating on a business as usual basis. We are all working remotely and do not anticipate any notable change in service to our clients.
Our Life Sciences & Chemistry group has an enviable depth of expertise and experience in the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in academic research. Our specialists from across all our offices in the UK and Europe have extensive experience in addressing the technical and legal issues affecting this critical sector.
We are European patent attorneys with a pan-European client base. As well as serving clients from all over the United Kingdom, we directly advise a number of Swedish, Norwegian, German, Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research institutes. We also act for a wide range of companies and universities from further afield, especially from the US and Japan.
Our clients include entrepreneurs, biotechnology and genetic research companies, pharmaceutical companies, horticulturalists developing new plant varieties, medical device companies, veterinary supply companies, and a number of chemical companies working in areas as diverse as fuel cells, liquid crystals and cosmetics. We also act for NHS Trusts and the research departments and technology transfer groups of many British universities. We frequently work with university spin-out companies.
Headed by Adrian Tombling, the Life Sciences & Chemistry group includes 14 European patent attorneys and trainee patent attorneys.
Members of the group bring a wide range of academic and professional expertise in biochemistry, genetics, chemistry, microbiology, pharmacy and veterinary science. Five members of the group have doctorates covering subjects as diverse as radiation damage to DNA, gene therapy and DNA vaccines, neuroendocrinology, and advanced analytical chemistry.
Members of the group belong to and participate in many of the key organisations in the life sciences and chemistry arena, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the Society of the Chemical Industry, the Chemical Industry Association, Medi-Wales, Medilink and the Intellectual Property Advisory Committee of the UK BioIndustry Association.
Internationally, the group also includes members serving in organisations including FICPI, an association of IP attorneys, the Biotechnology and Chemical Practices Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Issues Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), the Professional Qualification Committee of the European Patent Institute (EPI) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
