Stuart graduated in 2003 with a BEng in Mechatronics. His degree covered mechanical engineering, electronics and computer technology, with particular emphasis on control systems and robotics. For his dissertation he designed and built an autonomous mobile robot running a behaviour-based architecture control program.
He entered the patent profession in February 2005 with another firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, before joining our Bristol office in March 2008. Stuart qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 2009 and is currently working towards full European qualification.
Stuart's academic background and professional training to date have provided him with the necessary skills to understand a broad range of technical subject matter and gain a good appreciation of the varying commercial needs of clients. Additionally, Stuart considers himself to be a confident communicator of complex ideas.
Stuart has experience dealing with inventions across a broad range of technologies, including electronics, telecommunications and aerospace engineering, as well as a range of general mechanical devices.
In the electronics and telecommunications fields, some specific examples of areas in which he has experience are PCM modems, image processing algorithms, microwave antennas, hybrid fibre-radio wireless networks, vehicle telematics systems and PLL dual modulus prescalers.
In the aerospace and mechanical devices fields, some specific examples of areas in which he has experience are aircraft landing gear mechanisms, aerospace fuel drainage valves, embossing machinery and joint systems for concrete floors.
Amongst a range of sporting interests, including playing football, running and attempting to surf, Stuart enjoys cooking, digital music composition and keeping his young daughter, Elyssa, entertained.
